There is news that Ubuntu 15.04 brings better GTK library support, perhaps that translates to Gnome Shell finally not looking glitchy and broken on Ubuntu? One can only hope.NEW: Very first look at Ubuntu Linux 15.04 Vivid Vervet Beta Mate Flavor Update: I remember what it was about Ubuntu Gnome that seemed really weird to me it doesn’t have the latest version of Gnome Shell! Which really is kind of ridiculous. What do you guys think? Maybe I should just give Ubuntu Gnome a shot.ĭoes anyone out there love Gnome Shell like I do?! If you have an answer or solution for me, that would be pretty awesome. I even faintly remember reading somewhere that people love Ubuntu as a distro, and gnome shell as a desktop environment, yet not a lot of people were using Ubuntu Gnome - the distro. The whole thing is just … not very exciting? I know it’s dumb to judge software by how the website looks - but it’s not just that. The website itself looks like someone decided to use one of Wordpress’ existing templates and call it a day. Ubuntu Gnome - which is supposed to be an “official” flavor, or whatever, doesn’t seem to be updated quite as often either. And I believe there was another software I wanted to use (possibly Brackets? Oh, shameless plug, I do web design now, check it out! And Brackets is a great new Code Editor with Live Preview, and the wonderful people at Adobe make it. I’m already used to Fedora and the RPM way of things, but after snooping around for a bit I’ve noticed software development sort of pales in comarison to Ubuntu when you take into account that you have to install Spotify via 3rd party. don’t want to have to get used to a new package manager - I’m trying to streamline my computer use to increase productivity at the moment. I wasn’t willing to give up on the ecosystem I’m used to, def. I also love Ubuntu, though, because of the huge community and quick updates and latest packages, etc. It all became natural, and I miss that a lot.

It’s either a really great desktop, or one that was designed specifically for a person like me - but I got into such a groove of things that it was one of those glorious moments where the “design” of things isn’t something you’re thinking about anymore. I fell in love with Gnome Shell after using it for an extended period of time on a Fedora installation I had going on my last laptop.
